Joint Press Conference

Debra Slater, PSW and Coordinator of the Empower PSW Network, spoke at a joint press conference on March 1, 2023 at Queen’s Park, Toronto, Ontario. Together with other healthcare professionals, Debra urged the government to improve the employment conditions of workers and push for employer-paid sick days.

Better Work for Better Care

Debra Slater, Coordinator of the Empower PSW Network, speaks about the poor work conditions of PSWs at the Better Work for Better Care public forum.

Organized by the Decent Work and Health Network on February 24, 2024, the forum brings together health workers across Canada to link the movement for decent work with the fight to defend and improve public healthcare.

International Workers' Day

May 1 is International Workers’ Day. The Empower PSW Network is celebrating the commitment and dedication of all workers, including PSWs.

PSWs provide essential care and support to individuals who require assistance with daily living activities due to illness, injury, disability, or aging. Despite their crucial role, PSWs often face challenges such as low pay, lack of benefits, and precarious work. They typically have the lowest pay and greatest employment precarity within the healthcare sector.

Empower PSW Network is working to address these challenges and support PSWs in their important work.

PSWs, community members and anyone interested in advocating for the workers are urged to join the movement
